Got Some Questions?
We've Got Answers
Q: I like the concept of avoiding a trip to the dealership, but I'm a little nervous about the prospect of buying a car without kicking the tires and driving it first. What happens if I'm disappointed in the condition my car is delivered in?
A: We provide a detailed description of your car and an inspection report before completing the purchase. If the car that shows up at your door isn't as described, we'll make it right. Upon delivery, you have 24 hours to make sure the car is as-described. If you find a material defect that was not disclosed prior to purchase, we'll either fix it or take the car back and find you a new one.
Q: What kinds of vehicles are available for purchase?
A: The benefit of not being limited to selling what is in our inventory is that we can offer pretty much any vehicle you can imagine. Cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, wood panelled station wagons - you name it, we can probably find it.
Q: Where do you get the vehicles you sell?
A: We get our vehicles from the same sources the big boys do. Because we are a licensed and bonded used car dealer, we can attend dealer-only auctions to access a nationwide network of trade-ins, lease returns, and everything else available to dealers. We also buy from private parties if we can negotiate a favorable price, and have various other industry contacts that we take advantage of from time to time. What we do not buy are any vehicles with salvage titles, accident repairables, or flood vehicles - we'll leave those headaches to the other guys.
Q: I've heard of a "car buying" service before - isn't that what you are?
A: Nope. A car buying service isn't a licensed dealer. They generally charge you a flat fee, ranging anywhere from $750 to $1,200 to locate a specific vehicle for you. They can't sell you the vehicle, arrange financing or warranties, or deliver it to you, and don't have access to dealer only resources, since they are not licensed dealers. You still have to complete the transaction with the selling dealer, just as if you found the car yourself. In effect, you are paying around a grand for someone to search the classifieds for you. Conversely, we are a licensed dealer with all of the same resources as the other guy. However, we run an "inventory on demand" business model (in "Shark Tank" speak) which benefits the consumer with lower prices and a virtually unlimited selection.
Q: How long does this process usually take?
A: We move as quickly as we can to find the right vehicle for you. Of course, some vehicles may take longer than others to locate - a Fisker will be a longer wait than a Ford, for example. For the majority of vehicles on the road today, it should usually take no longer than one to two weeks for us to locate a good candidate for purchase. Delivery can usually be accomplished a few days after the financing process is complete. If time is an issue and you need to get around, let us know and we can arrange for a loaner car.
Q: What if my current car just died and I need something now?
A: We can work with you! Check out our "specials" page to see if you like anything that we happen to have available for immediate sale. If you want us to find a specific vehicle for you and know that it'll take a little more time, talk to us and we can usually come up with a solution, including the use of a short-term loaner car until we find your new ride.
Q: Who the heck are you anyway?
A: We are a bonded, licensed, and insured used vehicle dealership named Virtucon, LLC (just like in Austin Powers - get it?). The owner is Zach Smith, a licensed attorney and certified car nut. Although Zach understands that used car dealers and attorneys probably rank numbers one and two on people's list of most disliked people, he hopes that you'll instead look at him as the perfect combination of expert negotiator and automotive expert putting those skills to use for your benefit!
